The objective is to enrich not only the attendees of the festival but also the Eastern Townships community by creating a significant addition to the cultural fabric of the area. The festivalʼs central goal is to strengthen and promote the existing close ties the area has with the film industry both as a popular filming location and as home to many of the film industryʼs artists and technicians.

Drawing upon the unique qualities of the regionʼs culture, history and location the Eastern Townships Film Festival aims to create a lasting bond between the place, the audience and a celebration of the cinematic arts.
Festival du film des Cantons-de-l'Est/Eastern Townships Film Festivalnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-969580847344542177.post-15843253260827638492011-06-27T05:25:00.001-07:002012-05-30T17:39:00.111-07:00Program

Coming soon!

Festival du film des Cantons-de-l'Est/Eastern Townships Film Festivalnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-969580847344542177.post-69081852685711291302011-06-26T22:55:00.000-07:002011-06-26T22:55:24.641-07:00Description
The Eastern Townships Film Festival is a bilingual, mixed genre cinematic event conceived as an initiative with a threefold objective:

Brome Lake. Photo : Richard Leclerc

1- to enrich the local cultural fabric;

2- to promote the rich cultural heritage of the area and its local artists and artisans;

3- to brand and market Lac-Brome as a highly desirable tourist destination for this annual event.

Our team of artistic directors will assemble a series of original projections and avant- premières – to be held over a period of three days – that will optimize the bucolic nature of the festival setting. This may include special projection-events that will match specific films to an environment related to the settings in the film – a projection on a screen set up at Douglass Beach, for example or a religious-themed film projected in a local church.

For successful models to emulate, the founding committee has considered some high profile small town film festivals in Canada and the United States. One has to look no further than the famous Sundance Film Festival held each year in Park City, Utah, a town of about 8,000 citizens. Here in Canada we have one of North America’s longest running film festivals in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, a remote farming community of 16,000 people. Like this festival, first held in 1947, the long term goal is that from modest beginnings, the festival will follow its own organic growth to evolve into a unique cinematic event that will inspire film lovers everywhere to put this festival on their must- see list.

In this beginning stage the activities will be designed to suit the limited resources at our disposal. The approach of the organizers will be both pragmatic and modest, yet original. But a key element in this business model is building strong links with the community. The programming will be inclusive of both anglophones and francophones and trans-generational in scope to ensure that there is suitable content for family viewing, the cultural community and a wide demographic in the film-going public. The festival will also offer a special opportunity to young film lovers to create their own short film. The short-list will be screened during the festival and a winning entry selected.

With so many directors, producers, actors as well as creative and technical crew members living in the area, an added benefit for the screenings will easily include the presence of those implicated in the making of certain films. Local cinemas and ciné-clubs will also be consulted and invited to participate in the event to the mutual benefit of all.

The Eastern Townships Film Festival will also be an ideal occasion for local businesses to offer their services either directly through the festival, as sponsorships or in-kind exchanges or to the visiting public through targeted promotional campaigns. The programming of the festival will also work around the peak hours for local restaurants and businesses to ensure that it does not pose any scheduling conflict. Last, but not least, the festival will draw upon the strong tradition of volunteerism in this community and provide an opportunity for many of the general public to offer their personal talents and interests to help the Eastern Townships Film Festival fulfill its potential as a long- standing, high profile and unique cinematic event.
Festival du film des Cantons de l'Estnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-969580847344542177.post-78406237619983653342011-06-26T05:32:00.000-07:002012-05-07T14:41:41.003-07:00Contactseasterntownshipsfilmfestival@gmail.com

Eastern Townships Film Festival
P.O.
